Rodney E. Rohde, Ph.D., SM(ASCP)CM, SVCM, is Regents' Professor, Texas State University System, university distinguished professor and Chair of the in the at , where he also serves as the Associate Director of the . He holds certifications as a specialist in virology, specialist in microbiology and molecular biologist from the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

Rohde is considered a subject matter expert in rabies and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), as well as other public health and clinical laboratory topics. He has more than 30 years of experience, including a decade with the Texas Department of State Health Services–Zoonosis Control Division and Bureau of Laboratories and the CDC as a Visiting Scientist from 1992-2002.

His research interests include health care associated infections (HAIs), antimicrobial resistance and clinical/public health microbiology. He is an associate adjunct professor of biology at Austin Community College (30 years) where he teaches microbiology. He has published 150-plus research articles, abstracts, chapters, 2 books, and is a keynote presenter with 200-plus presentations at all levels. His books focus on MRSA and clinical considerations in rabies. He is a globally viral author and expert utilizing invited articles, TEDx talks, podcasts and interviews for science communication and translational health research literacy. The COVID-19 pandemic made “Doc R” the No. 1 quoted Texas State expert, conducting more than 200 interviews, webinars and workshops at the international and national level.
